First I made the base of the Dinosaur Volcano Cake with a 9×13 cake pan and the volcano with a Pyrex bowl, glass and oven safe. After the cakes had cooled I cut the cakes to make them flat, then I placed the rectangle base on the platter and the half sphere on top.
I tinted store bought vanilla frosting with Wilton Icing Colors red and green. I frosted the green “grass” first then used chocolate frosting mixed with crushed Oreo cookies for the volcano. I used pastry bags with #2 tip to create the lava and name.
The final step was letting the birthday boy decorate with his favorite dinosaurs and candles, which he loved doing.
