Cool Homemade Disney Cars Racetrack Cake

My son wanted to have a Disney Cars birthday party. I was telling my friend that I wanted to make a Disney Cars cake for him and she really encouraged me to try it. So, this was my first attempt at making a birthday cake. I had so much fun and it was so easy!

I used two boxes of cake mix and baked both cakes. After they cooled I flipped them upside down and placed them side by side. After frosting them, I took a toothpick and traced the outline of the road. I scraped the frosting out of Oreo cookies, crushed them up and put them in the outline of the road. From there I added some green food coloring to coconut and put it over the rest of the cake. I placed the rest of the Oreos around the edge of the cake to look like tires. I made the checkered flags with toothpicks and paper, and just did the checks with a permanent marker.

My son’s collection of diecast cars came in handy for putting some cars on the road!

The writing on the cake didn’t turn out the way I would’ve liked, but this was my first time.

I love it and I’m going to try my hand at it. My boy is into soccer and cars so this looks like it could double as a soccer field!!

  3. Good on you! I too have felt a little overwhelmed by venturing into the world of decorating children’s birthday cakes as it is something I have never done before. I made my son’s 1st birthday cake last year and while it was basic and my first ever attempt it was fun! Am looking forward to making a Cars cake this year and will draw inspiration from yours. It is great!
