Homemade Doctor Who Darlik Birthday Cake
I made this Doctor Who Darlik Birthday Cake for my son on his ninth birthday. It took 11 hours to make. I started by making eight deep sponge cakes bases and I used a baked bean tin for its head and a small bowl for the top. I used butter icing with jam between each layer. I placed all the sponge bases on top of each other, then cut out the shape of the Darlik base using an electric carving knife.
I added the head and top then covered with apricot jam. I kneaded food colouring into a white fondant icing block to achieve the desired colour. I then rolled it out and cut to shape and placed over the sponge. Malteesers were pushed in the icing and tin foil was used for its, probes.
