Homemade Bichon Frise Dog Birthday Cake

Homemade Bichon Frise Dog Birthday Cake

With my mother in laws 60th coming up I knew I wanted to make a fab Bichon Frise Dog Birthday Cake as she has a Bichon Frise. I thought I would give it a try.

I made 3 8" round lemon Madeira cakes I used 2 and 1/2 to make the body then the other half and off cuts to make the head, ears, nose and legs. I sculpted the sides for the back legs and stuck all the pieces together with lemon butter cream. The rounded tops of the cakes were perfect for the bum and chest.

I coated the whole cake with a crumb layer of butter cream then refrigerated. I then piped star shaped dots all over the cake and attached eyes, nose, tongue, collar, hat and mouth made from sugarpaste.

This is actually the practice, I plan to put the actual cake on a nice board etc.

Thank you so much for posting the complete directions and the photo's. I have been looking for days and I just couldnt figure out how to do it just by looking at them already frosted. So your cut out is going to be such tremendous help for me. Awesome cake.

I've got a dog cake to make in a few weeks - was unsure if I should use polystyrene for the head to keep the weight down but looking at your pics I'm more confident using all cake - thank you!!
