Coolest Doll Cake

I was ask to make a doll cake for a friend’s daughter’s 7th birthday. My first thought was, “I haven’t seen one of those in ages”. I immediately went looking for images of doll cakes and went back and forth for weeks on how to decorate her dress. The only guidelines I had were make her a blond with her dress in pink and purple. So, of course my creative juices were going crazy. I finally settled on doing her dress in fondant and adding gumpaste flowers for the frills.

The cake was made in the Wilton Wonder Mold and I used the blond doll pick I purchased at local craft store. I covered the cake in white butter cream and then cut out purple and pink scallops from my marshmallow fondant and attached them row by row.

To cover the “seams” I used pink and purple gum paste flowers with a sugar pearl center that I dusted with pearl dust for the added sparkle. Once I had all the seams covered I filled in the gaps with more flowers I randomly placed. I also dusted the fondant layers with pearl dust for extra sparkle. Her belt is made of sugar pearls and top of dress is just a 2 piece section of the scallops I cut out to cover her chest and then I added a square I cut out on her back and molded together to create the bodice.

My friend was so pleased and her daughter was so excited to show her off. I’m was really proud of how she came out. Hope you like her as well.
