Cool Homemade Dora and Boots Cake

I made this Dora and Boots cake for my youngest daughter’s second birthday. She loves Dora the Explorer and was very excited to be having a “Dora Party”. I’m relatively new to cake decorating (have only decorated 4 cakes prior to this one).

I turned to the internet for some ideas on how to get Dora and Boots onto my cake. Previously I’ve done transfers using Wilton’s piping gel, and also using toothpicks to “draw” an outline of the image. For this one, I used the “Frozen Buttercream Transfer” method. I was a little worried about it because it was the day before the party, and I had no back up plan.

Considering it was the first time I tried it, I think it looks great! (I used Wilton’s pre-made black frosting in the tube for the outline, and Wilton’s recipe for buttercream icing for the rest of the cake)

  1. Your cake looks great!
what kind coloring did you use? Was it hard to spread the buttercream? Seems like all the colors would just smear together.
Do you have step by step pics on how you did it?
