Homemade Dora Cake

Homemade Dora Cake

My 4 year old daughter really wanted a fairytale adventure Dora cake, but I'm no artist, and the iced sheet cakes seemed so difficult. I had this type of Dora Cake in mind, (copied of course from the Barbie version) but didn't know how I was going to be able to pull it off.

She helped me make a chocolate bundt cake (from a mix) and iced it with chocolate frosting. She thought that was her cake, and she was happy enough with it. Then when she wasn't looking, I added the Dora doll (btw it was difficult to find one with long enough hair, this one was from the snow princess line) and "dressed" her in marshmallow fondant (which I had also never tried before, but found instructions at
http://whatscookingamerica.net/PegW/Fondant.htm (or google fondant101).

This was my second "fitting", but only because I did it once and was so excited with the results and knew I could do better. Believe me, the girls loved the cake, and even the fondant. They each wanted a piece of the necklace and bracelet, and fought over the earrings! I've heard that traditional fondant isn't that tasty to kids, but they all loved the marshmallow version, and it was really quite simple.

The parents all asked where I bought this cake, and didn't want to believe that I made it. (but really you can tell that it's no professional job!!) I added 4 sparklers instead of candles, and it was a hit. This was my first attempt at a super cool cake, and I'm hooked!

Congratulations

Wow! This cake is pretty awesome! I'm glad to hear marshmallow fondant doesn't taste bad for kids, because I have also heard regular fondant is extremely sweet! Congratulations, you did a great Job!!!

Read your instructions and sounds and looks like you came up with a winner.

I have been hesitant to try fondant, but did see a recipe for the marshmallow version. Now that you say it tastes good, will be more willing to try it.

Thanks for some great idea. Am making my first Dora cake this weekend, wish me luck.

here's how

yes, the whole doll is in there. I just stood her up in the center of the bundt cake and iced around her. Then when we had to cut her we just started slicing from the back.

My daughter is going to be 4 in Sept. How the heck you did this that would be great! How did you get the doll in there without destroying the cake?

how did you do it?

I have the wonder mold and a doll very similar to yours... did you insert the whole body or did you pull off the legs on the doll and inserted the rest into the cake?
