Cool Dragon Cake

This was a cake I made recently for my nephew’s 4th birthday party. He wanted a dragon cake. The work took about 3.25 hours total.

The cake is comprised of 3x 8″ round layers; two for the main portion of the body, and the third was sliced into sectioned strips for the neck/face and tail.

After the cake was put together, it was iced over with white buttercream, then I went over it again for the details (scales, bumps, spikes, etc). The eggs are made of 2x cupcakes each, iced together on laying on their sides. After the eggs were made, I went through and carved out sections on them to look like they were hatching.

I airbrushed the color on, then piped in the baby dragons with colored icing. The main dragon was also airbrushed, with the eyes, claws, and highlights added last. The nest is made of chocolate buttercream with a large grass tip.
