Homemade Dragon Cake
My son collects dragons and even though he turned 26, I was determined to make a dragon cake. This cake is the product of a lot of research and plain old good luck!
The body of the cake is homemade chocolate cake baked in a round pan, cooled completely, then cut in half and iced together to form the body. The head, neck, tail and feet were made from molded home made rice krispie treats and the legs were made of Twinkies (cut up to make the correct sizes).
The rice krispie head gave me some problems, so I ended up using slightly melted marshmallows to form the face. Iced entire cake with buttercream icing then covered the entire in fondant. I then created the spikes on his tail, horns and wings out of gum paste. All details were colored in with paint brushes.
I stayed up until 5:30 AM making this cake for him (which also consisted of a middle of the night trip to WalMart to get ideas for the face! It was a true labor of love and well worth it to see the look on his face!
