Beatles Drumset Birthday Cake

Beatles Drumset Birthday Cake

I made this Drum Birthday Cake for my son's 20th birthday. The snare drums are just round cakes cut into smaller circles (I didn't have a small cake pan), the larger is an 8" double layer turned on its side. I used black buttercream frosting for the sides and regular white buttercream for the center.

I used black tube icing for the lettering (because its a true black). Don't laugh - the drum sticks are three shish kabob sticks cut down to size and hot glued together. The snare "stands" are orange juice glasses covered in foil!

This cake was a "hit" (no pun intended) with all our guests, but especially my son, a devout Beatles fan.

Turning it on its side
by: Anonymous

Kathy, I can try and answer your question as I made a cake similar to this. I didn't have a problem turning it on its side. I didn't use cake pans, so I had thicker cakes. If you are using cake pans I suggest using 4 so that the cake is wider and can support itself. I also used fondant which helped hold it together better. I hope this helps and that your cake turns out great.

How did you get the cake to go on its side without falling apart?

Love your cake. How'd you get the cake to go on its side without falling apart? My little grandson wants a drum cake for his birthday!
Thanks

Great cake

I also need to know if the cake on its side needed support. My drummer son wants a cake like this for his son's birthday, his little rock star. Looks great!

nice cake

Hi, like your cake and I would love to do one for my son because he love drums so I decided to do it for his 2nd birthday. I got problems for the big one, does it stay because it is round or I do hard icing so not to bend and you have to make it double. The cake in the middle, what should I do.
Thanks
Richalda
