Homemade Electric Guitar Birthday Cake

Homemade Electric Guitar Birthday Cake

My little girl had a rock diva party for her 7th birthday and wanted an Electric Guitar Birthday Cake that looked exactly like her real electric guitar. Whew! I started with a 1/2 sheet chocolate pound cake (frozen) and cut out the body using a pattern I made with parchment paper using her real guitar.

I crumb coated it, let is sit, then iced it with red (no flavor) butter cream icing. I used fondant and gum paste for the details, adhering them with more buttercream. The fret board is made using a sheet of rice crispy treat and the covered in icing and brown fondant. I used silver metallic powder mixed with vanilla extract to paint the knobs.

The only thing that stumped me was the strings. I tried black licorice strings but that didn't work so well, they kept curling up. Next time I'll probably try piping black icing using a guide. This cake was a winner with all the girls. I received tons of orders after this!
