Cool Homemade 3 Tiered Elmo Birthday Cake

I made this Elmo birthday cake for my son’s 1st birthday party with our family. He loves Sesame Street! The top tier is 2 6-inch yellow cakes, and the bottom is 2 10-inch chocolate cakes (with 4 plastic support dowels inserted to hold the weight of the top tier). I tinted white icing with no taste red, royal blue, leaf green and bright yellow.

I piped letters and numbers all over the bottom layer and then filled in all the yellow stars. For the top, I printed off the Sesame Street symbol and traced it onto the side to be sure it was proportionate. Then I piped his name and the 1 with tip #4. I outlined the symbol with yellow with tip #4 and filled in the green stars. I starred the rest of the top tier with blue.

The Elmo on top was his smash cake and was made with the mini bear pan. I cut off the ears and used some of the scraps from leveling my 6-inch cakes to make the legs and add some extra depth to the arms. I starred him all over in red icing. Then I made a very small batch of homemade fondant to make the eyes and nose (tinted with orange). Elmo was held in place with 2 chopsticks.
