Easy Homemade Elmo Face Birthday Cake

I made this Elmo birthday cake for my daughter’s first birthday. Quite simple really – I started with a rectangular shaped buttercake and cut it into an oval.

I used white iced cupcakes with a circle of licorice for his eyes and orange jelly beans in an oval for his nose. His tongue I made out of cut licorice straps to the approximate shape.

I used red sprinkles over red icing to give a “furry” look.

She loved it – yes, she did actually recognize him (“MO”) which was nice!

I will be making a Zoe for her third birthday and her brother is getting Grover for his first birthday cake. Their combined party is in a week, so I hope to post the cake outcome at a later date!
