Cool Homemade 3D Elmo Birthday Cake Idea

My granddaughter invited Elmo to her 2nd birthday party, so I chose a Elmo Birthday Cake Idea for her. I used boxed cake mix and store bought icing. I used a bundt pan to make the cake for the body and a Pyrex bowl for the head. I cut a wedge out of the “head” for the mouth and frosted the inside of the wedge with chocolate frosting to which I had added black gel coloring. The eyes, nose and hands were made from fondant. They were attached using toothpicks.

I used jumbo marshmallows strung on wooden skewers for the arms. I assembled the cake on a round wooden base that has a dowel that went right up through the middle of the entire thing, keeping it from falling over. I frosted the entire cake with bright red frosting (I added red red gel coloring to white whipped frosting)using a star tip, pulling the tip down to different lengths so that it would look like fur.

It took quite a while to frost the whole thing, but I thought it was worth it in the end.
