Cool Homemade Fairy Theme Cake

I made this Fairy cake for my three year old’s fairy birthday party.

I baked two chocolate cakes: a bigger one for the bottom part of the castle and a smaller one for the top. I covered the bottom cake with pink fondant icing, then placed the top cake on the bottom part and also covered that with pink icing.

A tip: It’s really easy to roll out your icing on a piece of cling wrap as it won’t stick. It is also advisable to oil your hands and rolling pin with sunflower oil so as to avoid blotches which often occur when colored icing is used.

I made the door, steps and towers out of purple fondant icing, and the turrets out of dark pink icing with some edible glitter. I added some store-bought blue flowers, silver balls and feathers. I used green fondant icing for the grass, with some sugar decorations for the flowers.

The top fairy was bought at Lakeland (UK) but the others I made from fimo clay. The path was store-bought glitter sugar. My seven year old daughter made the flags with toothpicks and purple paper.

Everyone loved this cake and it wasn’t bad for my second attempt at cake making.
