Cute Homemade White and Pink Fairy Cake

Each year my daughter challenges me by coming up with a creative theme for her birthday cake. This year it was Barbie Mariposa and Wilton doesn’t make a pan for this one! I originally thought I would make the stand up doll cake, but her one request was that the entire Mariposa be edible.

The cake is an 11 x 15 sheet cake. The night before the party, I iced the “primer” layer to keep the crumbs from mixing with the icing. On party day I iced the cake with a light pink (using rose icing), then hand drew on the Mariposa image with black tip #4.

For the dress I used rose icing and star tip #16, the wings and shoes were created with different shades of rose icing and star tip #16. I used the natural Wilton buttercream icing color for her body and hair (grass tip), blue sprinkles for her eyes, and even found butterfly sprinkles to add to her dress. The large flowers were made with tip #2D.

The cake took about 2 hours total to decorate.
