Homemade Fairy Cake

Homemade Fairy Cake

This homemade fairy cake was made with a Dolly Vardin cake tin as the skirt which I iced with homemade butter icing. Both the cake and the cupcakes were made with just a home brand butter cake mix - but I needed about 6 of them to have enough. I then iced and decorated the mini cupcakes (about 50 of them) with the butter icing, edible glitter and stars I made from fondant that I coloured and rolled out.

The cupcakes were then layered on top of each other (sideways) and pushed into the icing on the skirt to make them stick - but they pretty much balanced on each other as well. I used left over coloured fondant to make the bigger stars for the base. I used a cheap doll as I had to chop off her legs at the feet to make it the right height and then attached the wand and crown and used a butterfly that I bought to make the wings. I used any left over butter icing and small stars to fill in the top section where the cupcakes stopped.
