Cool Homemade Fairy Castle Cake

I wanted a really pretty cake for my daughter’s 1st birthday and bravely decided to make it my self!! This is my Fairy Castle Cake. I used a 10 inch Madeira for the bottom and an 8 inch chocolate for the top. The towers are made of Swiss rolls and the turrets ice cream cones! I melted boiled sweets to make the stained glass windows! Thanks Heston!

I used ready to roll icing and writing icing and hired the tins etc. This cost approx £60 all in and took me roughly 6 hours to make. Being my first cake I was really happy with the results! It’s just a shame that we had planned a BBQ and on the day, it rained! Hence the cake went stale as I didnt want to cut it for 4 people!! Never mind! It still looked good 2 weeks later when we did manage the BBQ!

  1. I have been bombing around the internet looking at all these beautiful cakes trying to come up with an idea for my daughters age 7 and * birthday. (they are 1 day exactly from being a year apart. My version of making a cake is mixing it up leaving it in the pan and putting icing and sprinkles on it and there it is. You guys make it look so easy and have wonderful ideas. I have been combining everyone’s ideas together and made a sketch of my own. I have never even heard of fondant let alone use it and I’m glad I watched you tube and seen they have cardboard and skewers in between the cakes other wise I know I woulda flopped. Anyway you did an amazing job and I hope ours turns out as well as your. Probably won’t be as pretty but I figure at this age they will remember it for the rest of their lives even if it is a flop. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas and take care!
