Homemade Fighter Jet Birthday Cake

Homemade Fighter Jet Birthday Cake

My son is a huge Top Gun fan. He wanted a Fighter Jet birthday cake. I modeled the cake after one of his toys by freehand drawing half on a folded sheet of newsprint cut to fit the pan. I then cut it out and placed it on the cake and cut accordingly.

I used the leftover cake to form the raised cockpit and vertical stabilizers. I decorated it using homemade icing colored with shades of blue from Wilton's icing colors. I created the jet smoke from using white icing on the pan - no cake under it.

Overall, it was a very easy cake!
