Coolest Fillmore Cake

After doing a Lightning McQueen cake for my nephew last year, I decided Fillmore would be the easiest to do this year, since he’s basically a block. Over the last year, my nephew’s complete adoration of all things Cars hadn’t waned even a little bit. One problem – I forgot how many colors of frosting and how much graffiti he had on him!

The Fillmore Cake shape was made by baking one 9×13 cake and cutting it into thirds. I then stacked the smaller rectangles and carved the cake to give it more of a “van” shape, specifically rounding the top edges and cutting in a windshield and hood. The light green frosting is buttercream. The graffiti is royal icing, although I decided to limit myself to seven or eight colors. Otherwise, you could be coloring icing for days.

The eyes are chocolate chips and the wheels are Oreo’s with buttercream hubcaps. I jacked up the cake using juice caps wrapped in foil – I’d definitely use a Styrofoam block next time. Fillmore was a little tippy with the arrangement I threw together.

  1. Hi i was just wondering the actual type of cake you make to create the Fillmore cake. My daughter and i were looking for a cars cake mold and came upon this and i will now be making this for her birthday at the end of the month. Do you think wooden dowels would be useful?
