Homemade Finding Nemo Birthday Cake

This Finding Nemo Birthday Cake was for a little girl turning 3. She was a big fan of Finding Nemo the movie. A few days before the party, I mixed up some royal icing in bright colors and I piped out the corals and seaweed shapes onto wax paper and let them fully dry.

I used many different types of tips to make the corals and seaweed. I just experimented, the star tips and the leaf tips worked very well. I covered the cake in bright blue butter cream icing with a white border and piped the Birthday girl's name in the middle with white. I tried to make the icing look like waves by lifting up as I spread the icing onto the cake. I then sprinkled blue sugar sprinkles around to add a shiny effect.

I found the Finding Nemo plastic characters at the Disney Store in the mall. I placed the royal icing corals and seaweed on the cake first and then filled in the rest of the space with the character figurines.
