I am not great at making cakes but like to make Birthday cakes myself using shop bought cakes and making them into whatever my little boy has asked for!
For his fourth birthday, he wanted a Fire Engine Birthday Cake. I bought 4 small Madeira cakes and sandwiched them together with jam. I used the last one to cut the shape of the cab and stuck this on with jam as well.
The whole cake was then covered with buttercream then red fondant icing. I used cocktail sticks to put the back lights on (liquorice squares) and stuck the other sweets on with a bit of buttercream. The windows and windscreen were made from grey fondant icing and stuck on with buttercream. The wheels are Oreo cookies and the hose is one of those sour roll up sweets stuck in with a cocktail stick. The trim and the ladder were made from black fondant icing. The light on top was a small piece of fondant rolled in blue sugar.
My son was thrilled with the cake!
