Cute Homemade 3D Fire Engine Birthday Cake

This is a Fire Engine Birthday Cake I made for my son’s first birthday. He really loved it and it was a huge hit and really quite simple to make. I had never made a themed cake before but I’m happy with how it came out!

I made it by baking two pound Madeira cakes in rectangular tins. I used one full cake for the body and cut the second in to 2/3rd and 1/3rd pieces, turned the 2/3rd sized piece upright as the cab. I used red butter cream to cover the cake and Oreo biscuits with icing holding a jelly tot in the centre for the wheels. Jelly tots sweets for the lights etc.

I filled the cakes with vanilla butter icing and strawberry preserve and froze for several hours before I started to decorate and finished off by piping a ladder on the top of the body. The windows are chocolate icing. I hope you like it as much as my little boy did!
