Homemade Fire Hydrant Wedding Cake
I was approached by a bride and groom who were firefighters; they wanted a wedding cake that would reflect their dedication to their jobs and the community (a homemade fire hydrant wedding cake!). So I made two large round layers for the base, then 9 round layer cakes for the hydrant. I used a doll pan for the top.
I made cereal treats into discs using my smallest round cake pan for the spigots. I let the discs dry and then frosted them with royal icing until they got hard. I attached the spigots by driving a wooden dowel through the cake tower until it projected on either side, then pushed the spigots into the protruding points. I inserted a little wire hook in each spigot so I could hang a silver chain on them. I used chocolate kisses (upside down) for the bolts.
