Homemade Firetruck Birthday Cake

Homemade Firetruck Birthday Cake

I made an 11 x 15 x 2 sheet cake and cut it into thirds. With buttercream, I stacked the cake thirds to produce a 11 x 5 x 5 cake and crumb coated the entire thing. I removed a 2 x 5 x 1 section just before the halfway mark for the separation of the front and back of the firetruck.

I covered the entire Firetruck Birthday Cake with a layer of fondant and painted it red with food coloring and a bit of vodka. Detailing the cake with fondant was a lot of fun using a pizza cutter and various cookie cutters and scissors.

I then painted the details silver (black with silver luster dust) or black or golden yellow. The ladder on top was fondant covered kabob skewers and tooth picks. I added a yellow fire hydrant and blue buttercream for the "water" and wrote Happy 2nd birthday Connor Bear.
