Homemade First Birthday Cake

I made this First Birthday Cake for my daughter as I'm bias towards first birthdays having to be a number 1 cake! I wanted to use yellow as it's such a gorgeous colour for a little girl.

I did a buttercream icing and kept it 'kid friendly' by only adding 1 drop of yellow food colouring. I made the flowers out of marshmallows (cut in half then pinched at each end) and decorated the outside of the number 1 with cut musk sticks. I also got some little flower decorations from Angel Dust which is a mixture of pre-made decorations and sprinkles.

You can see I made her name out of smarties but a word of advice, don't put a cake in the fridge if you have smarties on it (they discolour as a result of sugar bloom).
