Homemade First Birthday Iggle Piggle Cake

This First Birthday Iggle Piggle Cake was made by me for my great grandson who was one year old and loved to watch In the Night Garden. I saw a cake like this on the internet and thought it was just perfect for Tyler.

Firstly I bake a chocolate flavoured slab cake in a 12" X 8" cake tin. When it was cold I then cut it in half and shaped it into a number 1. I then made a chocolate butter icing and sandwiched these cakes together and then covered them fully in a thin layer of the butter icing.

I then kneaded the white fondant icing until pliable and placed over the cake and cut and trimmed round with a sharp knife. I then added some blue coloring paste to the white fondant in two different shades of blue. I then made shaped and made some bricks with both the white and the deeper blue fondant. I also made with a mold two blue flowers with white centers and two white flowers with blue centers.

I then made an Iggle Piggle just by shaping by hand from the two different shades of blue and added the white eyes with black pupils, black mouth, blue nose. Then with red fondant placed a small piece on top of Iggle Piggle's head and made his blanket which I attached with a little water to his body.

I then positioned Iggle Piggle on the cake with a little water, placed flowers on cake with little water then I made a small amount of royal icing and piped the letters I needed for Tyler's name and number 1 for his age and placed these on the cake with royal icing.

I then piped a few more letters and numbers on the extra bricks to place at each side of the board again attaching these to board with the royal icing. Then lastly I place a broad blue ribbon around the cake and fastened it with a bow
