Homemade First Birthday Ocean Cake
This homemade first birthday ocean cake was made for my friends son's first birthday. The theme was "under the sea". I made a 12x18x2 inch sheet cake. Half of it was a dark chocolate mix and half was a Golden Butter flavor. The frosting was homemade buttercream tinted Royal Blue with a bit of Cornflower blue color gels. I piped a shell border with #21 start tip.
The sea shells and sea creatures were made with chocolate molds and mostly white chocolate melts, and a few dark chocolate too. The white melts were colored with Candy color gels. The sandy bottom of the cake was a peanut brittle crunch candy topping purchased at a cake supply store.
The seaweed was apple fruit strings. I used dark blue sugar to add depth to the bottom of the ocean. I did borrow some ideas from other cakes I've seen online.
