Homemade First Birthday Sunshine Cake

I got most of my ideas for this First Birthday Sunshine Cake off this website, so thank you to everyone that experimented so I didn't have to. We did the sun and flower theme because I say that my baby girl is my sunshine.

The actual cake is a plain white moist cake. I injected it with raspberry filling. I also make raspberry butter-cream frosting. We made everything from scratch except the raspberry preserves. The fondant is marshmallow dyed with gel food coloring. The only thing I couldn't get to work right is when adhering the fondant to itself with water, there was a shiny glaze look where the water was.

I brushed confectioners sugar over the parts that were wet, but that sometimes left me with a clumpy sugar look. And there's still shiny parts. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

you should wet the bottom of the piece you are placing on the cake with a small brush. Do not brush the cake itself.

Hi, I definitely know what you mean when you say your fondant looks shiny after adhering with water. Try dusting a little cornstarch. It should do the trick!
