Coolest Homemade Football Helmet Cake for my Nephew

I made this football helmet cake for my nephew’s Sr. high school football players and the whole team. It was to recognize the Sr. football players. I used 2 8″ round pans, and 1 8″ round Pyrex bowl for the helmet using a pound cake recipe. I carved the helmet out of the cake. Covered it with Wilton’s choc. buttercream icing colored with super black coloring. Smoothed it with a viva paper towel.

The stripes and decorations are fondant. The face mask is 18 gauge floral wire formed and covered with black fondant. The picture of the boys is an edible image I had made at a bakery. The large cake is 2 11×15’s put side by side, and covered with Wilton’s buttercream recipe. I used a letter set to press the “Black Knights” logo onto the cake and covered it with buttercream. Used the grass tip to make grass around the helmet and pic.

The football players were thrilled with this cake and it was a great way to show my nephew how proud I am of him.
