Cute Homemade Poison Dart Frog Birthday Cake

This cake was for my daughter’s sixth birthday, she loves all frogs but picked a poison dart frog.

To make this cake I used 2 bowl cakes (pampered chef bowls), one large and one small.

I used the large bowl cake upside for the main frame of the frog I then carved out some of the front to make the nose, then used the small bowl cake to carve out the shapes of the eye bumps and legs. The eye bumps came from the bottom of the small cake using the already curved edges.

The rear legs also used the already curved edges of the sides of the small bowl. The small front legs are cut pieces of the cake as well. The toes are just frosting on the cake pan. I used a picture of a real poison dart frog for inspiration.

The frosting was homemade buttercream and it took a lot to get the legs to stay. I did use toothpicks to hold them in place for the crumb layer. Once it hardened and the final layer of frosting was applied they remained in place.
