Cute |Homemade Buttercream Frog Birthday Cake

Love this site! I came here for inspiration and was able to make the Frog Birthday Cake in the accompanying photo for a friend’s daughter. I made two rectangle cakes, French Vanilla with green food coloring. I leveled the cakes, split them and put a layer of frosting in the middle, then laid them out side by side.

I carved the outline of my frog, using a serrated steak knife for more control. I mixed up frosting (4 cups of powdered sugar – 1/2 cup shortening – 5 tbls milk – 1 tsp vanilla) and colored the majority of it green, some yellow, and some black, leaving just a bit white for the eyes.

I frosted the whole cake with green, then used a star tip and decorated the top to look like a frog. I outlined everything in black, which really made it pop.

This was so much fun and my friend’s daughter said “I’ve never had a cake THIS cool!”
