I made this Frog Birthday Cake Idea for my husband. With two young daughters I wasn’t going to get away with not having a cake for Daddy’s birthday. The cake itself is the best ever chocolate cake, recipe found on a BBC web site.
I then covered the cake with chocolate, cream cheese butter icing, a recipe I concocted but seems to work and has become a firm favourite for most of our cakes. This icing gives a soft base for the marshmallow fondant icing, another recipe I found online.
The image of a frog I got from an animals sugar paste cake decorating book. No particular reason for making my husband a frog cake, I just liked the colours and the frog, also an easy animal for a one and a half year old to identify. I added colour to shop bought sugar paste to make the frog.
I think this was my first ever animal to make and so it is not very smooth and a bit on the large size but we liked the cake anyway.
