Homemade Frog Cake
I actually got the idea for the frog cake from the other frog cakes on this great site. My cake dimensions turned out a little different so the cake changed a little too. My 14 year old daughter had never worked on a cake before and ended up doing the entire cake for her 4 year old brother.
I made two boxed cake batters, one in chocolate and one in yellow to give our guests a choice. I made the frog body in a 9 inch springform pan and filled it about 2/3 full.
I made a square 8 inch to cut out the two L shaped legs. I first made a template from paper.
I made several cupcakes and used the leftover batter to make a thin 8 inch round cake. Because my cupcakes were too small, I used a drinking glass and traced out two round discs from the 8 inch round cake. They were slightly bigger than the cupcakes and I sat each of the cupcakes on them to give make them higher. With the body being taller than a normal 9 inch round, the cupcakes were way too small by themselves.
I made two batches of buttercream icing. I thinned the first one with corn syrup and iced the entire cake like Wilton suggested to seal in the crumbs. The second batch we colored and used the number 21 star tip on most all of it.
Thanks again for the original frog cake on this site as we wouldn't have gotten this cake without it.
