Homemade Garden Allotment Birthday Cake
I was asked to make my Dads 80th birthday cake and as he has his own allotment and been a professional gardener all his life, I decided to base the theme on that.
I started with 4 rectangular basic sponge cakes and stuck them together with butter cream and jam. I bought white fondant icing and all the food colours I could and then just had fun! I covered the whole cake in green fondant icing and all the vegetable etc I made from fondant icing in advance so they had chance to dry out before finally placing all the bits on the cake.
The leaves I cut out with my children's play dough shape and the rest I improvised by using whatever I could find around the kitchen, cocktail sticks, kebab skewers!! The flowers I made using the nozzle from a piping bag pushing them out with a cocktail stick and adding a sugar ball. It was all trial and error but my Dad loved it I hope you do too!
