Homemade Gift Wrapped Cake
A friend asked me to do a cake for her daughter's 4th birthday and she found a Gift Wrapped Cake similar to this one on this site. I used 3 different size square pans and baked a vanilla cake. I made buttercream frosting which I divided and colored. I frosted each cake.
I then used homemade marshmallow fondant which I divided up and colored. I cut out one inch strips to place across all four sides of each cake and using different size circle fondant cutters I cut out the polka-dots and then using a fondant cutting tool cut out strips which I used for the swirls.
I placed the polka-dots and swirls on the cakes using a damp paint brush. I then cut out strips on fondant for my bow which I let dry for about an hour and also made the fondant curls to place in my bow. I used buttercream frosting to hold the bow in place.
The homemade gift wrapped cake took about 5 hours total to make and decorate. I stacked the cakes and using a large dot tip, added the strip to the bottom of each cake.
