Coolest Girl’s Carousel Cake

We spent my daughter’s 4 birthday party at a kiddie carnival so I promised I would attempt a Girl’s Carousel Cake. My ideas were largely inspired by this site so I thought I would share my outcome.

I used 10″ on the bottom and 6″ pan on the top with a 7″ round to attach the purple and pink straws. I wanted it slightly higher so I taped two together and cut each straw to desired height. The center column is a wrapping paper roll painted white with a sparkly purple ribbon wrapped around it. The cookies were made using Alton Brown’s sugar cookie recipe and Royal icing.

The cake was frosted with homemade buttercream icing (also Alton Brown), and tinted, pink Royal icing. We decorated with premade icing flowers obtained from a cake store, edible glitter, beads, and pink and purple sprinkles. It was a lot of fun and no doubt a lot of work – but all worth it!
