Cool Homemade Gotham City Cake

My son wanted a Batman party. We considered making the bat signal as our cake but it seemed too simple so we went with a Gotham City Cake. As always, I got my inspiration through surfing the web.

The bottom cake is a layered strawberry/vanilla with strawberry filling and the top tier is pure chocolate. I frosted the cake and then sprayed it blue (I’d recommend tinting the frosting blue and then spraying it to get a more layered look). The “city” is marshmallow fondant. I colored some black and cut out buildings and then blended some white in with the black to get a swirl/granite look. I used the #3 tip to pipe out small windows on the buildings. The bat signal is yellow fondant.

My 5 year-old loved the cake but was disappointed that Batman and Joker weren’t fondant (I’m not that talented!) but in the end he was pleased because he could play with the figures.

Fun cake and not too challenging. I’d recommend it even for the beginner.
