Cool Homemade Grave Digger Cake

This Grave Digger cake was my son’s 4th Birthday cake. He loves Grave Digger. Everybody loved the cake at the party. They all thought that it was a great idea that I really smashed the match box cars so that they looked like they were really run over.

For the hills I just baked some extra cake and cut it into the shapes of the hills. For the dirt I used Chips Ahoy cookies because their color is more of a brown instead of using Oreo’s. When the party started I put another truck on the ramp coming in. The last time I went to a Monster Jam show when the trucks came out they pasted big torches on the way in so on the cake I put two candles on each side on the ramp to look like the torches.

I started this cake at about 10:00pm and wasn’t done until 1:00am! I make the frosting myself, so it took some time. But when everybody saw it, it was all worth it.

  5. My son loves monster trucks and begged for a monster truck theme party. No problem until I started checking places to make one and they don’t. I’m freaking out because I have never made a edible cake in my life not to mention decorated one. Could you send me the recipe if you wouldn’t mind. I think I am going to try to take a shot at it, I don’t have any other choice. Maybe by the 20th sample cake I’ll get it right. LOL. Yours is the best I have seen and exactly what I thought I could call and order. my email is: fegle@comcast.net
    Thank you

  11. I planning on having a monster truck party for my Son’s 3rd Birthday party. He always is grunting, “Monster Trucks” and “Bad to the Bone”. We did go to the Monster Truck Show on Jan 29th and I was thinking on how was I going to make/decorate the cake. So I was going to use the layout out like they had at the show and thought it would be too much. So I went online and searched. Your picture and ideas was the second one that Google found. I LOVED this idea and will be using it! Thanks for the great tips and the pictures to share!

  13. This exactly what I am looking for for my son’s 6th birthday. I am going a bit bigger as I purchased a few of the monster jam trucks for the cake. I also thought of crushing the cars. Weird how some people think the same way that are strangers. Thanks for the tip with the cookies as I was going to use oreo’s.

  17. This cake is awesome. My son is going to be three in a few months and loves Grave Digger and anything Monster Jam. So I decided that will be the theme of his party. We are going to Monster Jam at the end of this month and he’s super excited. This year I want to make his cake versus buy it from a bakery. Could you send me the recipe, including your homemade icing? I’m not as creative as some so I’ll need a trial run before the party just to be sure I don’t mess it up. Thanks so much!

  18. I would love to send you a pic of the one I made from your model cake. Mine came out a bit different but awesome! I even took 3 of his cheaper imitation hot wheels and took hammer to them, (in the process hitting my finger and cracking my acrylic nail in half, LOL) but so worth the added effect!
    Thanks for the ideas!

  33. This cake is super easy to make. The size I used is a 1/2 sheet cake. The ramps I cut out of cake. Frost the whole cake then put your ramps on and frost them. For the dirt I used crumbled chocolate chip cookies. Decorate with your choice of frosting. I used buttercream. And for the cars I used matchbox cars that I smashed with a hammer.
And that’s it! :) supper easy. Thanks for all comments :)
