Homemade Gravedigger Monster Jam Cake

My son is the biggest Gravedigger Fan ever! For his 5th birthday he asked me for a Gravedigger Monster Jam Cake. I came on this site to get my ideas.

I started by making a stand out of cardboard and sticks (bamboo skewers cut down) I used hot glue to hold it together (after each stage I put it into the refrigerator).

Next I baked 2 boxes of cake mix. I used a 12x4x4 cake pan. Then I let it cool completely. I cut the cake to make the body shape, using frosting to hold it in place (vanilla cake frosting). I covered it completely in Chocolate frosting. Then I covered it with black fondant.

Fondant: 16oz Mini Marshmallows
2 to 5 tbs. water
2lbs Icing Sugar ( C&H powdered sugar)
½ cup Crisco
food coloring

Melt mellows and water, 30 sec. at a time in microwave until melted. Put ¾ powdered sugar. Grease hands really good with oil, kneed like bread. Add the rest of the sugar. Re-grease hands (if tears add water) use or store in a double wrap with plastic, grease plastic wrap and put into a ziplock for storage.

I used red and green fondant for the decorations and writing frosting to decorate. I used old fashion chocolate cake doughnuts for tires. I was very pleased of how it turned out, and I got a lot of compliments! It was a lot of fun.
