Homemade Grill Birthday Cake

This Grill Birthday Cake I made for a family friend's 60th birthday, that's where the title came from.

The "grill" is a 9 x 13, 2 layer chocolate cake - mix from a box - with vanilla buttercream filling. I used gel icing color and vanilla buttercream for the grill and grass. The hot dogs are red Starburst mixed with Tootsie Rolls shaped into links and the hamburgers are chocolate cake rounds, cut out with cookie cutters from extra cake, covered with warmed up chocolate buttercream and I used black gel icing color for the grill marks on the burgers and hot dogs.

It was a hit at the party & pretty tasty, if I do say so myself.

"mixing"

I guess a better word would be smooshing. I warmed the candy by rolling it in my hands, like play-doh. I used a 1 Starburst to 1 Tootsie Roll ratio. I think I ended up using 3 of each per hot dog.

Hot dog prep?

How exactly did you "mix" the starburst and tootsie rolls? I can't picture it myself, but those hot dogs look perfect! I can't believe they're not actually hot dogs. Great cake!
