Coolest Guitar Cake

My daughter wanted a Hannah Montana guitar cake for her 6th birthday party. We had a big HM concert party for her and it takes the whole family for us to throw a party! My Aunt Barbara decorated this guitar cake, created with 5 cake mixes cooked in rectangular pans and cut to shape.

She made traditional powdered sugar icing and tinted it. She used uncooked spaghetti painted with black food coloring for the strings, which I thought was very creative as we had all considered many options for the strings. The cake had a purple base and she used various tips to decorate with bright pink, black, white and lime green icing.

The finished product turned out to be so big that we had to find something to serve it on. Finally, we decided on a lid for a large storage container covered in HM wrapping paper. The 5 cakes were baked (we used funfetti and chocolate) in 9×11 pans. It was two layers tall. I cut (freehanded, looking at a picture) the large end of the guitar from two (four) cakes side by side. I cut the guitar neck from the 5th cake and got the two layers from it. Scrap pieces were used for the tuners at the end of the neck.

It was a sweet success!
