Homemade Guitar Cake

I made this guitar cake for my little boy's 4th birthday. All he wanted for his birthday that year was a guitar so I made him a guitar (little did he know that the real guitar was waiting at the party site for him).

I made this cake in a 9x13 pan. I then just traced an image onto it based on a picture that I had off of the real guitars box. I used a small star tip to frost the entire cake red, then added the strings and other details using black gel frosting.

I used the recipe from a cake mix box to make the "cake" cookies then frosted them with colored icing and musical notes (also with the gel icing) for something a little extra.

The cookies and cake both turned out better than I expected and needless to say, they both were a hit with my four year old and the rest of the family.
