Coolest Halloween Cake

I made this Halloween Cake for my Mom and Troy (my brother in law) for their birthdays. It was Halloween time, so what a better cake to make then a “Halloween Theme” cake. This cake was fun to make. My sister made the cakes and of course rolled the fondant out for me, but after that, it only took about 4 hours.

I created a paper stencil for the eyes and cut them out. I used a pearing knife and cut out random post/rails and placed them randomly. The pumpkins were round fondant balls that I used a toothpick to create impressions, placed the brown stem to give them the look of a real pumpkin. The broom, cross, spider and witch’s hat were created out of fondant. I piped out dead looking grass to cover the two different layers to blend it in.

The ghosts were made of rice crispy and fondant placed over them to appear that they are floating. The best part of the cake were the bats. They were placed on wire and anytime the cake would move they would flutter around.

Once the cake was completed I sprayed cooking oil for shine and “GLITTER.” As long as you don’t plan on eating the fondant, use the glitter, it adds so much! I wasn’t able to get my Mom involved for this project, but I did have reinforcement from my niece and nephew to complete the cake. We completed the task and was able to surprise “Mom/Gram.” I would have to say, the best part of making a cake is putting a smile on someone’s face.

I hope you had a great birthday Mom.
