Homemade Handy Manny Birthday Cake
I made this Homemade Handy Manny Birthday Cake for a little boy’s 2nd birthday. It is a yellow cake with buttercream frosting. Since I hate the taste of fondant, I used modeling chocolate to make the measuring tape border and the Handy Manny tools. The lines on the measuring tape were marked with a food coloring marker, which took several tries to get it to work the right way, but I got it. The tool box on top is made of rice cereal treats and then covered in modeling chocolate. The modeling chocolate was easier to work with than the fondant, and is definitely more forgiving making it easier to hide the seems and to add more if necessary.
In order to color the chocolate, I used petal dust and vodka. (Don’t worry about the alcohol content, the vodka evaporates and just leaves the beautiful colors behind.) I used a piping bag to draw confetti strings in order to give it that party feel. The little boy was so excited about his special cake, and they had a great party to go with the fantastic cake!
