Homemade Hello Kitty Birthday Cake

I made this hello Kitty birthday cake for my daughters 2nd birthday. I got the idea from this site. It turned out great. One of the ears was almost all icing, but no one ate that ear.

The cake was made from a large round pan, and then I cut out the top to make the ears. Used any leftover cake pieces to form the ears and attached with buttercream. The whiskers are licorice and the eyes also, that I cut the edges round with scissors. The nose is a piece of icing I colored yellow and then rolled into a ball, it was messy.

Everyone loved it! Used a box cake mix with strawberries and cream cheese filling.
