My daughter requested a Littlest Pet Shop theme for her birthday and so I looked around trying to figure out what to do about her cake.
I baked two chocolate 9×13 cakes and separated each cake in half lengthwise to spread a very thin layer of chocolate pudding inside for extra moistness. The center layer was pink tinted buttercream icing using Wilton’s recipe. I iced the cake with the pink icing (two layers – one crumb layer and one top layer), then transferred a pattern from a coloring page I found on the internet of the kitty cat using piping gel.
I used black icing to draw over the piping gel pattern then filled in the pattern with light pink, blue and brown-ish icing (tip 2 then patted down with my finger dipped in cornstarch to avoid smearing). I piped large circles on the side of the cake and patted down to make paw prints, then did a border and write her name.
This Hello Kitty Birthday Cake Idea wasn’t hard to do but still took quite a bit of time when you factor in making the icing, tinting it and decorating the cake. She absolutely LOVED it!!
