Coolest Hello Kitty Cake

I made this Hello Kitty cake while living in Japan! All of our Japanese friends were amazed at such a huge cake. Of course, since Hello Kitty is Japanese, they loved it even more. I baked two 9×13 cakes, one chocolate and one white, and I placed them next to each other. I used Wilton’s buttercream icing recipe, keeping some white for Kitty’s face, but dying the rest two shades of pink, a little bit black, and a little bit yellow.

After frosting the whole cake in light pink, I traced an outline of Kitty with a toothpick onto the cake. I used a small star tip to fill in the image, making her eyes, nose, and bow as well with stars. I used a small round tip to make her whiskers. I wasn’t too confident in my writing skills yet, so I had my mom bring over the hard candy writing from America. I stuck the Happy Birthday on top, then wrote my daughter’s name using the dark pink icing with a star tip. I piped a shell border along the bottom in dark pink as well.

This was one of my first cakes, and I’ve learned a lot since then. I was happy with how Kitty turned out though.
