Homemade Hibiscus Flower Pregnant Belly Cake
I made this Hibiscus Flower Pregnant Belly Cake in the same way as my previous "Punk Rock Baby Cake" (#37).
This hibiscus flower cake was made for my co-worker and friend. We are both Orthopedic nurses in Baltimore, she is from Trinidad and is expecting a little girl. So, this handmade fondant cakes dress is white to represent the great nurse that she is; the handmade gum sugar hibiscus flower represents her island roots and the expectation of a little girl; and the fondant yellow ribbon represents happiness and joy we, myself and her co-workers/friends, feel for her.
I also added, as I did for my previous cake, a real pendant that the mother can have as a keepsake; this cake has a pink flower painted on mother-of-pearl.
For this cake I made my first Gum Sugar flowers, I also used Pearl Dust to add lustre to the cake and cake paint for details. Mind you techniques and my original idea of a pregnant belly cake came from this wonderful site, never taking a baking class or decorating class, this is my second cake ever! So, I know you can do it!
I bought all my supplies from a local arts & crafts store like Micheals A&C store.
Have fun and enjoy!! I hope you like my cakes!
