Coolest Homemade Bridal Shower Cake

I made this Bridal Shower cake for a friend of mine.

I took a 16″ round pan and cut out an almond shaped piece to create the top of the umbrella. With the remaining cake I made the handle and rain drops. I iced the raindrops, using a star tip for their sides, then put them on the board to decorate them. I also used a star tip to ‘wrap’ the handle.

The flowers were made ahead of time with Royal icing. They were hard when they dried but softened as they sat on the buttercream icing. I used buttercream icing because I don’t like the way that fondant tastes.

I bought the foil for the cake board at a local cake supply store but it is the same foil that flower shops use to wrap around pots. I usually buy my icing in 25 lb buckets from a local bakery supplier who also sells cake boards and boxes.
